Enjoy a night out playing cards with friendly people in a friendly atmosphere. It’s FREE to play so when you bust out, you’ve lost nothing! Whether you’re a skilled pro or just want to learn the game you see all over TV, this league is for you.
The purpose of the league is to provide ENTERTAINMENT! Participating locations conduct a series of weekly FREE poker tournaments to determine which players will advance to the playoff events (usually top 20% of each location).

League Information Basics
League Time Frame
Players participate for a set period of time depending on the specific promotion. The standard league runs for 8 weeks.
Grand Prizes – Entry to WSOP Events, WPT Events
WPT-Foxwoods Poker Classic 2007: The grand prize for the inaugural league championship in the Winter 2007 season will be a chance to play in the Foxwoods Poker Classic. This is an official World Poker Tour event. The winner will receive a satellite entry for the $10,000 main event plus accommodations.
Scoring
The top 20% players (based on points) from each location will advance to the playoffs. An attendance bonus system rewards players just for showing up to encourage regular participation, and a perfect attendance bonus is given to reward regulars. Scores are entered to the website standings.
Setup / Supplies
No purchase required, although we prefer participating establishments to use Vermont Poker League supplied equipment.
Rules
Detailed rules will be provided. Starting chip count, blind schedule, etc will be set by the league officials and must be followed at all locations for consistency and to keep the games fair.
Dealers
Players deal themselves. Keep in mind this is FREE poker!
Advertisement
Vermont Poker League will kick off an advertising campaign to help promote awareness. However, additional advertising is highly recommended. This promotion will bring new customers into your bar, but they have to hear about it! Posters will be provided and it is important to obtain additional signage from your beer vendors.
Cost – The Best Part!
The spring and summer promotions are available for a participation-based fee. We want to be your long term partner in your Texas Hold’em leagues. Sign an annual agreement and we can offer one LOW FLAT monthly rate for participating in all of our promotions. We will also keep to our commitment of adding more prize value AND lowering rates as the overall league grows.
Social Game – Make It Fun!
The key to maximizing sales is to encourage the games to be fun. Break the ice with small prizes for first out, best hand, etc. Have a door prize to give out later in the night to reward customers for sticking around. Offer side games (prizes only!) to give losers an opportunity to play more.
FREE Poker – Legal?
As long as players do not have to pay anything to play, this type of promotion is NOT considered gambling in the state of Vermont.
Summary:
The cost of sponsorship is reasonable and we will continue to strive to be your long-term partner in providing the absolute best Texas Hold’em promotions possible. The magnitude of the Grand Prize(s) is the key and will draw a lot of interest from players. The league model promotes weekly participation, which is important. Promote your product, provide good service and you should see a nice return on investment. We will help you every step of the way.
*We can have your league up and running in 2-3 weeks if you’re ready to go. We recommend lead time for preparation and advertisement of 3-6 weeks.
